Christmas in 2020 is going to look a little different. While it might not be the sort of Christmas we’re accustomed to in south-west London, there is still plenty to be excited about – even with another lockdown – in the upcoming festive season.

We here at Craven House simply can’t wait.

We realise that it might be tricky to get everyone you need under one roof this year so, if you need comfortable, homely spaces for visitors to stay, Craven House is ready to step into the breach. Our refined serviced apartments will make them feel perfectly at home while giving everyone the space they need to be safe this season.

Thankfully, Craven House is located in the ideal place for you to make the most of all the merry winter activities coming up in the Surrey area.

The nights might be getting a bit longer and the days a bit chillier, but with a heap of exciting events still on the go, you and your loved ones can make it a season to remember.

So, in light of that, here are just a few of the festive treats we’re most looking forward to in and around Surrey.

It is important to note that, under the latest government restrictions, some of these attractions may be forced to close but we’re hopeful they’ll be back in action next month. Make sure to check their respective websites beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Hampton Court Ice Rink

The world-famous Hampton Court Palace comes to life in winter when they open up their stunning ice rink. The open-air rink will be sparkling for six magical weeks, allowing you to glide along under the stars against the magnificent backdrop of a historic Tudor palace.

In the meantime, the Palace has announced it’s gorgeous gardens will be open for household groups – just make sure to book your ticket in advance. To make it that little bit easier for you as well, it’s all right across the road from Craven House. Don’t forget to book tickets in advance.

Christmas at Kew

The Christmas Lights trail at the magnificent Kew Gardens is an absolute must-see. This year the magical pathway takes a new route through the illuminated Rose Garden before leading to the Palm House Pond finale, returning with a stunning light show playing to a memorable soundtrack of festive classics.

While the gardens may have to close some of their attractions during lockdown, the government has given them permission to keep their outdoor venues open throughout. As one of the most popular attractions at this time of year, make sure you book your tickets early to avoid missing out on a truly wonderful evening.

Bluebell railway SteamLights

While not actually in Surrey, we can’t think of many better things than riding an enchanting old steam train steeped in delightful Christmas lights. The BlueBell Steamlights train will be full steam ahead this season, departing from Sheffield Park station and lighting up the countryside with a brilliant light show as you go along.

From the safety of your private compartment, you’ll see a number of wonderful festive scenes while you wind your way full circle for ninety minutes, before finishing it off right back where you started.

The Ivy Cobham

Celebrate the season with a decadent meal at The Ivy in Cobham. From elegant brunches to sophisticated dinners, classy cocktails to themed-seasonal experiences, the Ivy has got everything you might need.

Additionally, you could visit the Snowfari at Painshill, meet-up with jolly old Santa Claus, take a winter walk through the beautiful Bushy Park or just enjoy a festive riverside meal at The Mitre.

South West LondonSo while it might not be the Christmas we know, we’re hopeful it will be one of the best, all the same.
