Well, we can hardly believe that it’s that time of year already – Christmas is on its way. And here in Hampton Court we’re really looking forward to the first ‘normal’ Christmas in a long time, as are all of you, I’m sure. At Craven House we’re ideally located to make the most of all that Surrey and London has to offer during the festive season. With so many options to choose from we thought we would round up our top five things to do a bit closer to home. So if you’re visiting for the weekend or a night or two, meeting family or friends or just having a little Christmassy staycation, I hope you’re able to find some inspiration for lovely ways to spend your time here.

Kingston Market
Every Christmas, Kingston puts on a magnificent display for their European Christmas Market. A Christmas village filled with stalls selling everything from stocking fillers and artisan gifts to festive food and drink, pops up seemingly overnight and visitors can wander around beneath the twinkling lights. The ancient market town makes for a really beautiful backdrop for carol singers, live music and a traditional carousel to delight the little ones. Plus, this year there’ll also be two Curling rinks – let the competition commence!

Christmas in Hampton Court - Kingston Market

Festive Fayre
From the 2nd to the 4th December, Hampton Court Palace plays host to the Festive Fayre, a weekend packed full of culinary delights, ‘a food lover’s Christmas wonderland’. You can explore the Palace dressed in all its Christmas finery. On the Saturday there will be bite-sized carol concerts in the Chapel Royal and stalls selling foodie gifts – just in time to snap up some last minute presents. Book ahead here.

Ice Skating at Hampton Court Palace
Surely one of the most magnificent rinks in the country; Skate at Hampton Court is back for another festive season. An outdoor rink in the shadow of the palace and on the edge of the Thames, it doesn’t get more iconic than this. The rink opens in mid-November and you’ll need to book tickets in advance, which you can do here. Why not plan to go to The Mitre or one of the other delicious eateries on the high street afterwards? It’s the perfect Christmassy outing for the whole family.

Glow at RHA Wisely
An after-dark adventure through the gardens of Wisely, this year’s Glow is set to be the biggest one yet. Wind your way through the paths and flower beds and experience the garden all decked out in its Christmas best. There will be a Christmas village with stalls selling toasted marshmallows, hot chocolate, mulled wine and more for a festive snack after your wander. Or you could visit the Wisely cafe, Glasshouse cafe or the Terrace restaurant for a sit down meal. Remember to book your tickets in advance.

Painshill Festive Heroes
Every year Painshill Landscape Garden hosts a treasure hunt with a twist. This year’s theme is Festive Heroes and sees giant presents dotted around the park waiting to be found, hiding larger than life characters and everyone’s favourite superheroes from Superman and Wonderwoman to The Hulk and Spiderman. The route is 1.5 miles long and mostly tarmac. There are also snacks available from the Painshill Tea Room. The trial is included in general admission tickets which can be booked here.

We look forward to welcoming you to Craven House over the Christmas period. If there is anything I can help with in the meantime please don’t hesitate to ask.

All the best,

Lucy
