Here at Craven House we join with many across our nation to mourn the loss of our beloved monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. With quiet dignity, and humble leadership she stood at the helm of our country for a truly outstanding 70 years, making her the second longest reigning monarch of all time.

Looking out over the towers and turrets of Hampton Court Palace this week I have been struck by how lucky we have been to bear witness to such a long and devoted reign. Having served in the Second World War as Princess Elizabeth, 15 Prime Ministers and 13 American Presidents came and went while she remained steadfast and true on the throne. Her unwavering sense of duty and commitment to her people, even into her last days on earth, was, and still is, astounding.

As the Elizabethan era gives way to the Carolean age, I, along with everyone else at Craven House, wish to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the extended Royal Family on the loss of their Commander-in-Chief, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. We stand together to mourn your loss as a family, and our’s as a nation, and to commemorate the extraordinary life she lived.

Queen Elizabeth has been famously quoted as saying ‘grief is the price we pay for love’, and we have experienced the great love and devotion of a greatly loved Queen for over 70 years. The history books are sure to record the many thousands of people who will travel from far and wide to pay their respects to her.
