2022 is a big year for our beloved Queen, as she reaches a remarkable milestone – the first ever British Monarch to reach a Platinum Jubilee, or 70 years on the throne. This is a truly remarkable achievement and, in true British style, cannot be passed by without a celebration (or two, or five). Not only are there a number of events set to take place across London and the rest of the country in June, but there is a bonus long weekend set aside especially to join the festivities. Here is a sneak peak of what will be happening:
Trooping of the Colour
The annual celebration of the Queen’s official birthday is bigger than ever this year with over 1400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians parading from Buckingham Palace, down the Mall to the Horse Guard’s Parade. There’s no need to book tickets, just make sure to get there early to get a good spot as there are sure to be crowds.
Platinum Party at the Palace
Unfortunately the ticket ballot is closed for the Party at the Palace but the show will be broadcast across the BBC – why not gather friends and family together and host a garden party to celebrate our Queen followed and watch the concert together.
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant
Slated to be an event like no other, the Platinum Jubilee Pageant will see 10,000 people, including 6000 volunteers, performers, key workers and 2,500 members of the general public tell the story of the Queen’s 70 year reign down the Mall from Buckingham Palace.
Tower of London SuperBloom
1 June – 18th September
The much anticipated Tower of London SuperBloom is set to be a spectacular display of colour, fragrance and fun. Over 20 million seeds have been planted in the 13th century moat and will bloom from June to September, plus, a huge slide enables guests to grab a mat and slide into the moat amongst the blooms. Hop on the train from Hampton Court station and then take the underground from Waterloo and you’ll be at the Tower of London in no time.
Platinum Jubilee Blooms at Hampton Court Palace
June – September
Closer to home for Craven House guests, you’ll find the Platinum Jubilee Blooms at Hampton Court Palace. As part of the Jubilee celebrations, Hampton Court, Kensington Palace and Hillsborough Castle and Gardens will all be playing host to mini Superblooms. A special seed mix created especially for the festivities has been planted across the different gardens with new designs and patterns chosen to reflect the Queen’s record-breaking reign.
A Jubilee Joust
1 June – 5 June
Here’s one for the younger members of your crew – the Jubilee Joust at Hampton Court Palace sees knights from around the country battling it out for honour and victory in the palace gardens. Bring the whole family along to cheer them on.
Aside from these large scale events, there will be many community picnics, street parties and tea parties happening across the country. It’s sure to be a festive time and we look forward to all the celebrations – after two years of lockdown it’s about time!
If you are planning a visit to London for any of the events then we are well placed to be the perfect place to stay. If you have any questions or if there is anything I can help you with then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
