A few hidden gems on Craven House’s doorstep

Lucy Schiel May 3, 2017

Craven House is perfectly located for visitors to London, positioned just a short train journey away from the centre of the city.

But because of that convenience, many of my guests forget what’s on offer right on our doorstep. Our Hampton Court location, and proximity to two of the capital’s most wonderful royal parks, gives you all kinds of options, especially for lovers of beautiful green spaces.
So, here’s a short guide to upcoming events and hidden gems you won’t want to miss if you’re heading for my part of town.
Spring and Summer 2017 events at Hampton Court Palace
Hampton Court Palace - What do do around Craven House Luxury Serviced Apartments in Hampton Court
Hampton Court Palace is a national treasure, and well worth a visit in its own merit. But during the spring and summer months, a series of events make a visit there even more spectacular. The world-renowned Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is a wonderful day out in the height of summer, running from 4 to 9 July. Or if you’re looking for something to keep the kids busy on holiday or during Half Term, The Best of Barmy Britain from 27 May to 3 June is a fabulous family stage show from the brilliant Horrible Histories team. Find out more about these events by clicking here.
Richmond Park and Bushy Park
Just 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of central London, you can walk amongst deer in the beautiful parks near Hampton Court Palace. Bush Park surrounds Hampton Court Palace, and features wild deer, horse rides, and various conservation areas. Unlike some parks in central London, the wildlife is as abundant as the people are! It also hosts a variety of events, including the ever popular Hanworth Classic on 25 June – a celebration of classic cars and 40s and 50s Jive and Swing.
Hanworth
A few miles away – reachable by a short train or car journey, or a picturesque walk – is Richmond Park. Also renowned for wildlife and plant life, a number of free guided walks are regularly scheduled which take in the magnificent Isabella Plantation – a nearly 200-year old, 40-acre garden. You can find out more details on those tours here.
Kempton Park Racecourse
What could be more British than a day at the races? We’re just 3 miles away from Kempton Park Racecourse, which features prestigious horse races and superb facilities for visitors. They even run family days that welcome younger visitors and provide a variety of family entertainment. Find out more here.
So, if you’re headed to Hampton Court this year, don’t forget to stop on your way into the centre of London.
