A short stroll from Claygate station you’ll find our beautiful Claygate Apartments – two luxury serviced apartments nestled in this pretty Surrey village. Claygate is a buzzing little town with a lovely parade and restaurants a-plenty, tucked away near Esher. It’s a short hop on the fast train to London, close to the Sandown Racecourse and Hampton Court with rolling Surrey countryside on it’s doorstep. Here are our top five options for eating out during your stay in the London suburbs, as well as some ideas for casual brunches and drinks. Unassuming, quaint and packed full of delicious eateries, it’s no wonder many an incognito celebrity calls it home.
The Foley Pub
With an ever-rotating seasonal menu, the Foley is a great spot to indulge in some delicious fare. There are three different dining styles to choose from. If you’re looking for something a bit fancy – perhaps a date night dinner – The Restaurant has everything you need. A casual lunch? The Saloon Bar or garden terrace are just the spots. A cheeky drink? The Foley Bar boasts a roaring fire in the winter, or if you want to enjoy a long summer evening, take your tipples into the garden. They also have a separate kids menu to keep the littles of diners happy.
Averna
Described as ‘Italian food heaven’, Averna is the place to be if sumptuous homemade Italian dishes are what you’re after. You’ll find this beautiful foodie haven – perfect for intimate dinners or rowdy family lunches – nestled on the edge of The Green. It’s also less than a 10 minute walk from our Claygate Apartments making it an ideal choice for lunch or dinner. Averna also offers a take away option if you fancy enjoying your meal from the comfort of your apartment. We recommend their pizzas – they have quite the selection on their menu and they are always divine.
Bombay Social Esher
If Italian is not tickling your taste buds then look no further than Bombay Social in Esher, a lovely restaurant near Claygate. Home to fragrant and delicious Indian food and a vibey bar. They’ve got sharing platters, they’ve got tapas and they’ve got a menu packed full of refreshing takes on traditional favourites. Please note that they discourage children under 10 on a Friday and Saturday night after 7pm.
José Pizzaro at The Swan Inn, Esher
Who knew you could eat your way around the world without leaving the leafy streets of a little Surrey village? The fourth outpost in José Pizzaro’s expanding foodie empire serves up a Spanish feast, alongside Sunday roasts cooked on an open fire. There is also a kid’s menu boasting sausage and mash, chicken dippers and mac and cheese – all with a Spanish twist.
Claygate Fish Inn
Sometimes all you want is a good ol’ fish and chips. Luckily the Claygate Fish Inn is a local institution when it comes to such a dish and our top recommendation. It’s minutes from our Claygate Apartments but does offer a takeaway service so you could order by phone and wander down and collect your dinner in a jiffy.
Claygate is also home to numerous little coffee shops and restaurants, from Zeitoun serving up delicious Lebanese to Laz Cafe and Parade and Albany.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Claygate Apartments soon – until then, enjoy the longer evenings and sunny weather.
All the best,
Lucy
