We might have to agree to disagree about whether it’s cream or jam first, but we can agree that afternoon tea is a big treat. Luckily, afternoon tea in Surrey is a real institution and we are surrounded by so many truly delicious options from botanical to traditional in south west London we’re totally spoiled for choice! Read on for our top choices:

The Mitre

Nestled along the banks of the River Thames, The Mitre is always one to impress, with its new afternoon tea experience for Summer 2026 is inspired by English gardens and wild flowers, The Botanical Afternoon Tea. Indulge in elegant savouries, floral-infused sweets, and delicate details – from lavender pavlova to chamomile and honey cake, all whilst enjoying tranquil views of boats, and swans gracefully drifting by on the river. Afternoon tea is served from 13:00-15:30pm Friday to Sunday and 13:00-17:00pm Monday to Friday.

Great Fosters

At Great Fosters, it’s a truly British affair, think coronation chicken; cheddar and red onion chutney on spinach and basil bread; St Ewe’s egg mayonnaise, cress and brioche rolls; scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam; and a selection of sweet treats, all accompanied by a wide range of artisan teas and champagne options. And with child-friendly and dog-friendly afternoon teas available, the whole family is welcome!

Oatlands Park Hotel

Built on the site of a magnificent Tudor Palace, Oatlands Park Hotel has been serving up tasty treats since 1856. Choose from the Classic, vegetarian or vegan afternoon tea, all served with loose leaf teas and optional Prosecco or champagne upgrades. Child-friendly options are also available.

Denbies

Afternoon tea is served daily at 14:00pm–17:00pm, booking recommended. 18+ Only.

Luxury picnic in the park

It would be a shame not to mention the British institution that is ‘The Picnic’ and with such a spectacular park right on our doorstep it’s hard to beat the idea of a luxury picnic in a little corner of Bushy Park. When it comes to picnic hampers, Picque, the handmade picnic company has lots of options to tickle your fancy, from their Afternoon Tea Box to the Teddy Bear’s Picnic box. Get it delivered to Craven House and then hop into the park for an afternoon of languishing. Or, if the weather is not on sides you could fling out a picnic blanket on the floor of your apartment and treat yourself to an afternoon tea delivery from Mclaren Fine Foods.

The Ivy In Cobham

The Ivy Cobham

And finally, rounding off this truly mouth-watering collection is The Ivy in Cobham, where you can choose from a simpler Cream Tea, with or without a glass of champagne or English sparkling wine. They also offer a  lovely seasonal cocktail menu and plenty of brunch options if you wanted to add something more substantial and stay and relax a little longer.

As you can see, we are certainly not going to run out of afternoon tea options any time soon! If you have any questions, or I can help with reservations during your stay with us, do get in touch and let me know.

Have a lovely week,
