When it comes to places to eat we have quite the selection of cafes near Hampton Court Palace. Many of them are dotted along the charming Bridge Road across from Hampton Court Palace, nestled amongst the stylish boutiques and antique shops the area is known for. We have our favourites of course, as most people do, but when there are so many in number we could eat out every day of the week and not grow bored. So, whether you’re looking for a breakfast of champions to kick-start a busy day, picking up a freshly squeezed fruit juice before a walk down the Thames tow path, or fueling up after an afternoon of wandering around the palace, you won’t go wrong with any of the options below.
Dish
Open 6am-6pm, seven days a week Dish serves up a range of delicious fare including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. On a sunny day this is the perfect place to pick up a freshly squeezed fruit juice before a walk across the bridge, through the park and into Kingston. The menu is seasonal and changes weekly so you are always in for a treat.
Lion’s Gate Cafe
A new one but a good one! Perched right on the edge of Bushy Park and on the cusp of Kingston with its bustling shops, sits the Lion’s Gate Cafe. WiFi is available so pull up a chair for a few hours of work, and dogs are welcome too if you wanted to bring along your furry friend for a snack before a dash of leg-stretching and tail wagging in the park. Open Tuesday to Sunday.
The Six
This one is more a restaurant serving traditional and seasonal British meals than a cafe. Tucked between the Palace and the park sits The Kings Arms Hotel, home to The Six restaurant. There is quite a spread of menus available here, from bar snacks and lunch dishes to Sunday Roasts, afternoon teas complete with sandwiches and sweet treats and a specially designed Kid’s Menu with colouring pages. And when it comes to location for your table choose from the bar, the terrace, the snug and the lounge – it’s a real culinary destination. Open seven days a week.
Five at the Bridge
Another Bridge Road classic, Five at the Bridge boasts a traditionally British cafe menu and is ideally located for all the major attractions of the area, and of course, easily accessible from Craven House. It is also dog-friendly, making it another great option for a pre, or post-walk snack. Open every day.
Canela Cafe
A Columbian-style cafe close to the river, the station and Hampton Court Palace. Pull in for breakfast or lunch before a spot of antiquing on Bridge Road, or before strolling across the bridge for a history lesson in the palace. Open Wednesday to Sunday.
The Coppernose
Described as ‘your neighbourhood cafe’, the Coppernose is probably the nearest cafe to Hampton Court Palace. Open from 8am every day and boasting a fresh rotation of local pastries and breads it’s a lovely place to indulge in a little breakfast or brunch. The fact it’s a stone’s throw from the front door of Craven House only adds to its charm. Open 8-6pm every day.
All that being said, sometimes we’re after more of a ‘grab and go’ drink than a sit-down and enjoy the atmosphere. The kiosk in Bushy Park or The Pheasantry in the Bushy Park water gardens both offer take-away coffees, teas and fruit juices for just that purpose. Pick one up and wander off into the park for a good dose of fresh air and revitalisation. This one is especially great for anyone with small busy kids in tow who need to burn off some steam.
