Whilst it’s true we’re only a stone’s throw (or a fairly quick train ride) from the streets and feasts of London – if you’re looking for something a bit different to the city slicking then we’ve got good news.  To save you some planning time, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite Surrey spots and what we think are the very best things to do in Surrey. Read on for more:

Where to eat in Surrey

Foodies hold onto your hats because we’ve got some real treats for you:

Tony Parkin at the Tudor Room
Located just outside Windsor is Great Fosters, a Tudor estate home to topiary mazes, a fountain, Saxon moat, Japanese bridge and this Michelin-starred restaurant. Every meal is an experience, and booking is essential.

The Garden House Restaurant at Beaverbrook
Nestled in the grounds of this spectacular Surrey hills country house sits The Garden House restaurant serving Italian-style fare and traditional Sunday roasts. Beaverbrook also boasts The Dining Room, home to their Japanese Grill, The Pizzeria at the Deli, Sir Frank’s Bar and The Coach House at the Deli.

The Dog and Pheasant
Nominated as ‘Best destination pub in Surrey’ in the esteemed Muddy Stilletos awards, The Dog and Pheasant is a great family-friend option. With a delicious kids (and grown-ups!) menu and a beautiful garden and play area, it’s just the spot for a family meal.

Family outings in Surrey

We know that being on holiday with little (and even not-so-little) people means lots of outings. Luckily Surrey is bursting with wonderful things to keep everyone happy. Here’s a few of our favourites:

Hampton Court Palace and the Magic Garden
We couldn’t let the opportunity pass to mention our neighbour, Hampton Court Palace. One for the history buffs and the horticulturalists alike, the palace boasts magnificent gardens, spectacular historical tours and the very magical Magic Garden playground which will delight the kids and is included in your palace ticket.

Hobbledown Adventure Farm
A personal favourite amongst the children of Team Craven House, Hobbledown is a real treat. With an indoor play barn, animals and outdoor playgrounds that will leave everyone shouting ‘woooww’ it’s just the spot to burn some energy, no matter the weather.

Thorpe Park
If you’ve got older kids then Thorpe Park should top your list of the best things to do in Surrey. Known as ‘the UK’s most thrilling theme park’ and home to Stealth, the fastest rollercoaster in the UK you’re sure to have an adrenalin filled adventure.

Walks and Wanders in Surrey

It goes without saying that we are lucky to have some of the most beautiful scenery in Surrey. From traipsing up the Surrey hills to meandering along the river Thames here are some of our top choices for a summery walk:

The Hilltop Stroll at Boxhill
Described as a ‘gentle walk’ this route will take roughly thirty minutes and treat you to some of the best views across the county.

Windsor to Shepperton
This 13 mile riverside route should take about four or five hours to complete, depending on how often you stop for refreshments. With eight pubs along the way you will have more than enough opportunity to refuel as you take in the pretty sights along the river.

Bushy Park
If you’ve got a furry pal with you then look no further than Bushy Park for a good dog walk – it’s right outside our front door! Do note that from May until the end of July dogs will need to be on leads as this park is home to hundreds of deer and during birthing season they can get a bit flighty.

Surrey’s arts and culture scene

From theatre to galleries, the Surrey arts and culture scene has plenty to choose from. Here are some of our top picks:

The Rose Theatre Kingston
This lovely theatre is not far from Craven House and has such a varied offering of shows, plays and musicals that you’re sure to find something to thrill everyone in your party.

The Lightbox Woking
Home to a gallery, exhibition rooms, a museum and hosting all manner of brilliant events for all ages, the Lightbox is a true culture hub right in the heart of Surrey.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, our luxury serviced apartments are within easy access of all of the above. See our homepage for details of our accommodation and service.

All the best,
Lucy
